Why do Christians hate gays ?

I asked Christians why they hate gays and they said because in the bible a man and a woman are supposed to be together and make babies. If a man and a man or a woman and a woman are together they cannot recreate. Whats the big deal if two men or two women are together ? There are enough babies in the world. There are babies without food or homes. Gay people adopt and help those starving babies.
